The Evangelical Presbyterian College of Education, Bimbilla, was founded in October 1962 by the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana Headquarters is in Ho in the Volta region. . The church was given a land, (a one square mile) for the establishment of the College was allocated to the Church, free of charge by the Bimbilla Naa, Naa Natogmah Attah. However the College was started during the reign of Naa Abdulai Dassana.

The first Principal, Mr. Adolf G. K. Adzanku opened the College on 2nd October 1962 with 35 male students at the then Bimbilla Middle School. It was later moved to its present location in 1963. The Moderator of the E. P. Church at the time the College was founded was Reverend E. K. Galevo. The College remained a single-sex institution until 1975 when the first batch of female students were admitted. The pioneer students graduated in 1966 and in the same year, the annual intake was raided to 70 students. Over the years the College has been known and referred to as BIMBICO for short.

The initial aim of the College when established was to train 4-year Certificate ‘A’ post-middle school teachers in the Presbyterian spirit for the Basic level schools. In 1990, the 3-year Certificate A post-secondary programme was introduced, phasing out the 4-year Cert A programme in 1994.

In 2004, the College admitted its first batch of Diploma students and was one of the fifteen Colleges selected in Ghana to train teachers in Science and Mathematics. With the passage of the Colleges of Education Act 2012, Act 847, the College took on the tertiary status and continued running the Diploma in Basic Education (DBE) programme till 2018 when the new educational reforms upgraded Colleges of education into bachelor degree -awarding institutions.

The College has also in time past has ran part-time DBE programmes on sandwich basis for Certificate A teachers (Top-up) and Pupil Teachers engaged by the Ghana Education Service.
